Periodontal Disease
The word periodontal means “around the tooth”. Periodontal disease attacks the gums and the bone that support the teeth. Plaque is a sticky film of food debris, bacteria, and saliva. If plaque is not removed, it turns into calculus (tartar). When plaque and calculus are not removed, they begin to destroy the gums and bone. Periodontal disease is characterized by red, swollen, and bleeding gums.
Four out of five people have periodontal disease and don’t know it! Most people are not aware of it because the disease is usually painless in the early stages.
Not only is it the number one reason for tooth loss, research suggests that there may be a link between periodontal disease and other diseases such as, stroke, bacterial pneumonia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and increased risk during pregnancy. Researchers are determining if inflammation and bacteria associated with periodontal disease affects these systemic diseases and conditions. Smoking also increases the risk of periodontal disease.
Good oral hygiene, a balanced diet, and regular dental visits can help reduce your risk of developing periodontal disease.

We moved to Napa in 1989. A neighbor recommended Brown's Valley Dental. We have been patients of Dr. Chung, since he came here seven years ago. We are happy with everyone, and the office. The women at the front desk are such help scheduling appointments, billing and insurance. Emmy the hygienist that cleaned my teeth is super. It is wonderful to have a dentist that is very knowledgeable on the latest technology but is so friendly, causes no pain, and does a wonderful job. My kids love going to Dr. Chung and it was so great not having to persuade them how important it was to go to the dentist. I have recommended Dr. Chung to my mom and also to friends and neighbors who needed a dentist. I tell them how long we have been going and how great everyone is there. My mom loved everyone at the office also and Dr. Chung was wonderful with her.

I found Brown's Valley Dental when I was searching around for a dentist in Napa online. I have nothing but good things to say about them. From my first visit, I felt like I was in good hands. Dr. Chung and staff are extremely helpful, competent, honest, and kind. When I first came into the office I hadn’t been to the dentist for a long time. I brushed and floss regularly, but without the assistance of regular checkups my dental health had fallen by the wayside. Dr. Chung quickly set up a plan to get everything back on track. This has removed a good deal of stress and worry for helping me understand where I am at and where I want to be. Now I know that I'll be able to maintain good dental health going forward. I would recommend Brown's Valley dental to anyone. I would simply tell them what a good experience I've had working with such friendly and competent doctor and staff. Thank you to everyone at the office. You guys rock!
